Addis Ababa is a big, spread-out city, and where you stay changes your whole trip — especially how far you are from the airport. Here's a quick comparison of the three neighborhoods most visitors consider.

Bole

Bole is the airport district — home to Bole International Airport itself, plus a dense cluster of modern hotels, restaurants, and malls. If you're on a short layover, arriving very late, or leaving very early, staying in Bole minimizes transfer time. It's the most convenient, if not the most historic, choice.

Kazanchis

Kazanchis is Addis Ababa's business and diplomatic core — home to the UN Economic Commission for Africa, embassies, and several of the city's best-known hotels, including Sheraton Addis, Hyatt Regency, and Radisson Blu. It's about 15–20 minutes from Bole Airport and centrally located near Meskel Square, making it a good base for both business travelers and anyone wanting easy access to the rest of the city.

Piassa is the historic heart of Addis Ababa, with Italian-era architecture, older markets, and a very different atmosphere from Bole's modern towers. It's farther from the airport — usually 30–40 minutes — but rewards visitors who want a more local, walkable, and historic base, especially if you're staying more than a couple of days.
